Fuego

I know we are supposed to abide by Leave No Track, and I usually follow those rules. But I have to tell you I am just enough of an old fashioned kind of guy that I like a small fire at night to sit around, eat cookies, drink coffee and visit. Absent a fire danger or regulations to the contrary, how do you guys feel about it? I was thinking of bringing along some small fire starters I made of paraffin and sawdust.

I already have those fire-starters packed in my backpack. I enjoy a nice fire. In fact, my wife is certain that my ability to use fire and my opposable thumbs are the only things that separate me from the great apes.

SUPER!! It is just part of th experience for me. Besides if it is cool and damp it will be pleasant. Want to hump a chaise lounge in along with a satellite TV dish? Thought I was the only one up this late.

How fortunate your wife gives you that much credit. Mine thinks that most simians can crack a nut with a rock with more finesse than I.

You can tote the axe.

Regarding the axe, I actually had a Boy Scout leader tell me once "Bobby, you don't need an axe if you burn down the whole tree." 38 years later, I still don't really know what he was getting at.

Is that kind of like "Whole hog or nothing?"

I suppose you can hump that saw along; I have carried enough while trail building and tend toward dead limbs, knots, squirrels, bear chips, etc. I like Bob's idea of just burning the whole tree.

I normally pack two quarts of white gas, one to cook with, one to burn with.
